Insert little gif of man with shovel
Just a note to say that I'm intentionally breaking parts of the website. Well not intentionally. I thought I knew what I was doing, but hey, it was hot in my study last night! Not ideal conditions for coding.
At any rate. Normal service should resume shortly, please excuse any patchy and or dodgy things in the short term while I'm fixing it.

...and welcome Aubrey!
Good golly! Thanks to Verity who has encouraged Aubrey to get involved and she has already submitted her first piece for onetonnemusic! Aubrey's first piece brings indy New York based band The Distraction to our collective attention and it's absolutely well worth a listen. (a bit reminiscent of The Infadels if you want a quick and dirty musical parelell)
So very excited to have some extra folks onboard!
If you're interested in getting involved, read this for more info. I'd love to host anyone's writing if they are keen for some exposure and want to be involved in the site!

Welcome verity!
Just a short note to welcome Verity to Onetonnemusic! Verity is a music fan who is looking to share some of her writing experience with us and I'm really very excited about having more folks to help out! So thanks Verity, you're excellent!! You can read Verity's first post for onetonne below, which is a review of AFI's Decemberunderground.
If you're interested in getting involved, read this for more info. I'd love to host anyone's writing if they are keen for some exposure and want to be involved in the site!

My internets let me show you them

(what was waiting for me once I reconnected to my email. If you have tried to get in contact recently and haven't had an return email, please resend to the usual addresses - my profound apologies.)
For the second time this year I have had an enforced purgatory from my website and my internet social life. This time it wasn't a lack of internet access, but the fairly unspectacular death of the motherboard in my computer. I'm insured for accidental - but apparently because my power company couldn't product a definitive letter stating that we actually did have a power issue (even though there was blackouts all over the state I live in).
I don't usually do this sort of thing, but I have had really good experiences with my insurer CGU in the past, however this time around I've had a shit of a muck around and it seems that they're content to annoy me into giving up. Which is effectively what I have done, which is to say, I paid for the repair of my pc even though I pay them a monthly stipend to take care of me when this kind of thing happens. Not happy janet. Consider a nasty backward link your moral come-uppance you penny pinching bastards.

Why don't you post stuff!?
For some reason after a bunch of time off, lots of people are getting in contact for graphic design work via the website. Which is absolutely lovely.
As I mentioned earlier, I have just relocated interstate and I've been working really hard to get settled in and my next big plan is to invest in a silk screening setup so that I can do my own poster printing here. If you do end up needing some quality graphic design, know that it will contribute to my dream of making my own handmade boutique gig posters.
Should you require any graphic design work, I'd love to hear from you. I do all sorts of stuff, logos, posters, cd's and I have reasonable rates and I love doing music graphic design.
So why don't I post stuff? Well there's only so much time in the day. I'm dead keen to post more, but I'm just playing catchup for the next little while.
If you have a story idea, drop me a line on info at ausmusician dot com, I'd love to get some fresh stuff happening on here.

Just a short note to say that I am moving house (interstate) and I will be back online and at broadcast depth in a few days. I have no idea how good my net access will be so if I can't please remember to pat the intertubes and don't feed the trolls after midnight!

Help Wanted!

Yes, that's me.
Okay folks I have some things I wish to share with you. Onetonnemusic currently gets a little over 1,000 visitors per day. Which is good considering that it's really only a hobby project. This month will crack 30,000 visits without any problem at all. Problem is, it's just me sorta saying stuff out into the ether, and I would like to get more folks on-board.
I want to find anyone who is interested in having a shot at music writing. If you are into and interested in writing a post or two per week (no major commitments here folks) on the subject of:
- Unsigned Indie Bands (anywhere in the world) that you think are interesting.
- Interesting music geek gear, especially home-made and user created
- Music trivia & silly Youtube clips that are funny and relevant to people with epicurean music taste
- Tips and tricks for making your own music.
- Funny music rants and raves.
Then I want to talk to you.
It's horrendously easy to do this stuff, and if you've ever fancied having a shot at freelance writing for a crust, maybe a few articles on onetonne could be the start of your career. Or possibly you just want to blow off steam. Believe it or not - I have a bunch of professional writing experience, and I am happy to share what experience I have to help you develop as a writer.
Should you have a blog also, and you would like to boost your visitors, you could possibly consider giving me permission to syndicate your content. I repost your stuff, with full credit and you get a lot of extra exposure.
I know it's lame, but I cannot offer you any cash at this stage. (If you are in a band, a gig poster certainly wouldn't be out of the question) I run the site out of my back pocket, and it's steadily growing. If it makes money, of course I am dead keen to pay for real content from writers. I do my posters for free because I love doing them, and maybe sometime in the future I can turn that into my main line of income. I see it as a simple way for me to support indie bands and do the stuff I love. I'm hoping there's some potential writers out there who feel the same way, who would like to give it a shot.
I am intending to put together and launch onetonnefilm in the short term future which will be covering film, tv & all things celluloid experience. If writing about film and tv is more your bag, then I'd also be VERY keen to talk to you.
Please drop me an email on info at ausmusician.com and I would be absolutely stoked to receive any contributions or set you up and account so that you can become members of the onetonne family.
Thanks,
funnel

Visit the onetonne store!
This is really only an experiment, but I thought I'd give it a crack. I have setup an amazon store which contains a bunch of stuff for you, dear reader.
It's full of handpicked musical stuff. If you find something you like you can buy it from there and it will help support onetonnemusic, which in turn will support my indy posters, and also onetonnemusic's charitable adventures!
Gear that's in there at the moment is a selection of absolutely essential albums, DVD's and the powerful and clever Nintendo DS lite (plus electroplankton & elite beat agents for your musical delectation). Is there something missing from the store? Let me know. No reason why this cannot be a community project! info at ausmusician dot com with any store related thoughts and feedback (or post your thoughts on the forums)
Check it out after the jump! More fine tuning to come!

No really, the forums work now.

Sorry about the intermittent and dodgy goings on with the forums. We had to get rid of the old ones because of the amount of time I was investing in maintaining them was getting out of control for what I always envisaged as a more informal chat system. I've been a bizzy beaver and I've fixed up the worst of the gremlins for the new forums. Expect some more assorted malarky as I work out stuff.
Visit the new forums; it's exclusive and secret squirrels, so you have to register and then get your application approved. Why is this? So we don't end up with spam again. Hopefully.

Forums are currently up!
UPDATE: Please visit the new forums to have a chat and shoot the musical breeze. I will be adding features and styling to it to make it more 'onetonnemusic', but in the mean time, you can check it out!
---
Hi Guys if you visit the forums today you'll get the following message
Sorry, but this board is currently unavailable. Please try again later.
That's because I've temporarily taken them offline. We're getting a lot of spam posts to the forums and it's got to stop. I am currently investigating setting up some alternative forum software and I just need some technical assistance from my host before they're working properly.
I will post back with more news as I sort it out. Shouldn't be much later than 10PM tonight (GMT+11)

Say hello to onetonnegraphic!

A bit of gratuitous cross promotion here folks, but I have just popped up my online graphic design portfolio. Why is this of interest to you? Well, because you may well have exciting graphic design stuff that you need a hand with that's why! Call me baby!
Also I'm just happy to have it online and not percolating silently on my computer. And you also get to see what I do when I'm not writing stuff for onetonnemusic.

I made a donate button! Huzzah!
Hey guys. I have added a simple paypal donate button for the site.
It is my intention to ask anyone who wants to donate to use this. I will use the cash to
a.) help offset the cost of running the site which I have been shelling out for since 2001.
b.) (hopefully over time) have onetonnemusic fans help sponsor a child
If you are browsing the Internet, then chances are you are one of the extremely lucky folks who has access to clean water, education and health care. I believe that a goal of sponsoring a child through the website is doable, and something that is extremely worthwhile.
I promise not to use it to purchase beer and skittles! If you are a band member who wants a poster done, a quick way into my good books maybe to donate some cash towards these two causes. Any donation at all (of any amount) is appreciated!
The button will henceforth be located under the calendar on the right hand side of the main part of the site. Click on it, and donate a few clams if you've got them to spare.
Thanks everyone.

On Holidays.
I mentioned this in another post, but I am headed off on a weeks holidays. Don't wreck up the place ;)
Anyone who wants to send me articles to post on onetonne in my absence will be rewarded richly in this life, and possibly the next if thats your thing. That's a roundabout way of saying anyone who is interested in writing a piece for the site is most welcome and your best avenue for communicating with me about that would be on info at ausmusician dot com.
Have a good week folks. :)

New writer on the onetonne block

I would like to welcome a new writer to the onetonnemusic posse! Velcro Smaak will be joining us! He's from the UK and studying Audio Technology, a subject which is close to all of our hearts. He's been published in some of his local papers, and also some student magazines as well.
I am really excited to welcome Velcro, and cannot wait to get more people involved in the site. If you are at all interested in joining in and writing stuff about music or music nerdology (tm) I would love to hear from you. Drop me a line on info at ausmusician dot com and I will set you up with an account and you can broadcast your thoughts and join the onetonnemusical revolution.

August Update
Howdy folks, I thought it was time for a small update on the site. I have been away in New Zealand for the last few weeks and have spent the week trying to catch up on emails and all sorts of fun work related stuff. But I wanted to mention a few things that I have on the go right now.
Playlist
I wanted to make note that the Music Reviews Category is now called Playlist instead. I will be reviewing and welcoming reviews of albums and EPs for this section. If you have a band and want your stuff reviewed please drop me a line on info at ausmusician dot com. I am happy to have a listen and write a few words up and let folks know about your stuff. Just so you know, at the moment that means around 600-800 people per day could be reading about your stuff. So if you want a bit of support and free exposure, then please give me a hoy.
Gig Posters
Also on the topic of support for indy bands, I am continuing to do FREE poster design, where time permits. I am booked up for the next couple of weeks, but if you get in contact and I am available I would be delighted to help out. Previous gig posters are here..
Writers (still) Wanted
I am looking to grow the site wherever possible. If you have a passion for music (and music toys & instruments) and would like to write for onetonnemusic I would be stoked to hear from you. If you want to be involved please drop me a line: info at ausmusician dot com. Anyone is welcome to apply, and if you want to write stuff and get feedback on your writing, I am most happy to do so. Even though my webwriting is pretty average, I did support myself through university by writing (for real magazines).
Forums
The Forums are a bit stale at the moment. I am planning to look at the forum Categories over the next few days. I have just implemented some stuff to remove spammers, but basically, I reckon it needs an influx of new people. I'm thinking of running a giveaway to maybe bump up forum chatter. But if you haven't registered an account on the forums and say hello!
Finally, those of you who requested one of the Free Melbourne Live CDs should have (or will in the next day or so) received it in the mail. Sorry it took so long, but sometimes I get swamped... And I'm easily distracted... Sorry.
Cheers folks,
Funnel

Site news june 06
I have added a new video category, as the trend for youtubin' and google videoin' cannot be denied. So expect a few more video links in the posts to come. It's the way of the web (2.0) *insert winky eye smiley face*
Also I extended and rewrote my electoplankton wishlist as well as wrote a short peice about Toshio Iwai's collaboration with Yamaha to create the Tenori-On, and they're on Create Digital Music. This is cool because CDM gets about 10 squillion more viewers than I get in a given day. So anyway, you can read my guest posts on CDM here:

FREE CDS! (sounds a bit like email spam)
Folks, I just got back from a few days away from home, and while fishing through my email and separating the offers for genuine rolex watches, cialis (whatever the hell that is) and myriad of other alluring email spam, I have been collecting up the emails sent to date for the free Melbourne live 2005. If you have sent in an email so far, you have your name put down for a copy that I will send out in one lot once I get a full list of 18 people. (so no need to send again)
That means right now I still have 10 more of these CDs to give away. Details in the post below.
Email. Email swiftly, email like you've never emailed before and receive a free sampling of whats happening in Melbourne's Live music scene!

bandwidth shenanigans mk2
Just a note to say that after a short outage due to doing my monthly transfer limit (again) I've decided to upgrade my hosting plan so that the site has a little bit more room to move. It's a good sign that we're using the bandwidth, that means that plenty of folks are visiting.
I've been working on several projects, one of which is working with Peter over on Create Digital Music and some other fantastic folks on the CDM redesign. It's quite a big job and should be showing up on the interweb very soon.
I've also quit full time work for my previous employer a few months ago, and I've been working for myself. That means if you need graphic design work done, I could quite possibly be your man (info at ausmusician dot com) That means most weeks I've been clocking up 70-80 working hours in the last few months. I'm going to try and balance things a little more so that I can concentrate on some non-work related projects, such as onetonne. Which, by the way, has been running in one shape or another for 4 years now.
my excellent webhost
I'd also like to use this as an opportunity to give my host a plug. I use an Australian company - Digitalis, and they have not only provided me excellent prices but fantastic support and excellent quality of service. It's really nice to get such excellent quality service and support and if you're looking for a quality host I would recommend them. So check em out: Digitalis - tell 'em onetonnemusic sent ya ;)
want to join in?
It's a very busy and exciting time, and after the CDM redesign is finished, I have a few tweaks in mind for onetonne, and also I would like to encourage anyone who is interested in getting involved with the site to please get in contact (info at ausmusician dot com) - if you are into music and want a space to write about what moves you then I'd love to have some extra folks onboard.

yesterday's outage
Hi Guys,
Yesterday you might of noticed that the site was inaccessible. That was due to it finally breaking the 5gb monthly traffic cap that my currently hosting plan covers. That's 5gb of mostly text and images. Which is actually quite good news, that means that there's more folks than ever visiting the site. Which is great as far as I'm concerned. I'll keep an eye on things this month and if it looks like we're going to hit the bandwidth limit 2 months in a row then I'll upgrade the hosting plan.
All in all, it's good news and the site is growing slowly thanks to links and people telling their friends about it. It's a small milestone (many sites shift hundreds of gigs each month) but I feel a signifigant one. We average a little over 500 unique visitors a day, which is a far cry from a few years ago. Thanks to everyone who has been involved and read the site, thanks to the forum regulars cos you guys rock.
In the future I'm looking to upgrade the site to the full version of Movable Type so that people can login and submit news easily. If you are interested in submitting news or articles for the site please drop me a line on info at ausmusician.com so I know that there's some demand for setting it up sooner.

assorted technical tomfoolery
I have a rather fabulous post written up, but it currently won't let me post anything with fancy dang html code in it. I'm not sure what is going on but I will do some much need general technical junk this evening. If weirdness happens, I blame the internet.
Update: Please accept my apologies guys, apparently there's some stuff going on with my host, who pretty much haven't skipped a beat in the last ~4 years I've been using them, so I think that's fair cop! Will update when it's fixed.

hey what's going on?
Hey kids. I thought I would just pop up a quick note to say that I've been dying to write more for the site, but have had several other comittments that I have to sort out first. I've got an awful lot on my plate at the moment, but I will endevour to get back into the swing of things as soon as possible.
There is lots of exciting stuff going on for me right now, and I've been taking on things left right and centre and not doing enough of these projects/clients justice. Anyway, that's all I wanted to say.
Oh - one other thing. If you are in Melbourne and available on Wednesday night this week (the 27th) basefield is holding an exhibition at the Chapel Off Chapel Galleries. The show is called The Commons and the proceeds for the night are going to charity, and that's a pretty fabulous thing. I'll be there, and so will a bunch of other great folks. Come along! basefield.com
Thanks :)

There's a friendly community of regulars and an open chance to post releases and gig info on the Music News Forum. Everyone is welcome to join in and chat, so check it out.

New music news forum
There's a new addition to the forums, a music news section. If you are looking for a spot to pimp your gig, post upcoming tour dates, tell anyone about new track releases post em up here. I'll be keeping an eagle eye on this forum, and if I see stuff which I think is suited to the main part of the site, I'll post it up as a news item for the world to see. At the time of writing that means about 450-500 people will see it each day!
Alternatively, if you want to keep it under your hat, you can email me news on info {at} ausmusician dot com.

wallpaper redux now with grey!
I've just updated the onetonnemusic wallaper, as the orange was a tad dayglo. Just a smidge. The new version features the same design as previously just with a dark grey background with subtle pattern like the old one. Hurrah.
You can get the 1680x1050 pixel widescreen (good for apple users) version here.
You can get the 1600x1200 (good for everyone else) version here.

onetonnemusic wallpaper!
Guday kids! I've made a couple of wallpapers for your desktop delectation! Should you be into this site, or even better, the colour orange, then I have just the wallpaper for you! It's available in super dooper 1600x1200 and not so super dooper 1024x768 resolution! Thats how much I care!
1600x1200 wallpaper - just right click and save as, or if you're on a mac, drag it to your desktop!
1024x768 (But clearly not as juicy as 1600x1200). I'm thinking of using a better version of the tape image in the new site logo, so tell me what you think.

do you want some onetonne stickers?
As I mentioned earlier. I have made up some stickers, and fresh from the sticker-a-torium I have made another batch of homebrew stickers. They have permanent ish adhesive on them and are laser colour printed, and seem to withstand spring rain quite well. Should you wish to get your greasy paws apon some stickers wing me an email on info at ausmusician dot com and I will post some out to you. Free! It don't get cheaper than that!
There's a variety of designs and I'm sure that if you wanted to stick some up where you can spread the word of onetonne that would be just dandy!
Why they look like this! young men and menettes!

stickers!

Those among you who happen to live in melbourne, keep an eye out for onetonnemusic stickers, they are sneakily hidden about the city and will continue to turn up in dingy alleyways and on poles and other places. I'm planning to do more up, and am more than willing to mail out my dodgy homebrew stickers to anyone who wants some!

well folks... i think you've waited long enough
It's been way too long, and i've been way too busy to sort things out for the site, but I'm proud to announce that we're up and running with a new system and a new approach.
Everyone meet movable type, movable type meet everyone. I'm still in the process of updating the old content, but I will try and get that out of the way tonight so I can start posting fresh stuff.
I'd like to give a big thankyou to Milty from grahammilton.com fame and Dave from AustralianInFront for their patience and assistance to help me get past my own laughable lack of html skillz.
Please stick around and see where the site is going next.... There's plenty to do with the site, and im keen to make it happen.
Cheers to the forum crew for keeping me keen to keep on working and revising the site and taking it up a notch. You guys make up the little community that I want to facilitate and make much stronger...
Thanks to everyone :D

Suffering slightly
I'm just a little peeved I cannot suss this thing out. Not that it really matters as no-one will be reading this at the moment anyway!
