PSP Seq Version 0.00

Hot on the heels of the development of PSP Rhythm 3 (CDM: PSP Rhythm 3) - a rather nifty bit of homebrew drum software for the PSP...

..Is PSP Seq Ver 0.00 (which I think is code for being very early in the development process. At this stage it's more of a teaser release with "basic sequencing functionality is implemented but none of the song or sound design functionality is in place. many new features to be added soon!" But the theory is good, and if PSP Rhythm matured so quickly there’s no reason this cannot do the same. There's a willing and active community of homebrew fans and musicians out there.

It's been tested on 1.0 & 1.5 firmware and Ethan is looking for testers on 2.0 for feedback.

Looks like a title to keep an eye on, I would personally love to see titles such as phoenix pocket studio released for Nintendo DS or PSP - There’s a genuine market for turning these portable devices into smart music devices. The potential is immense, especially when you consider that both machines have viable input methods (joystick on psp, touchscreen on DS) and also both feature inbuilt wireless.

Interactive portable music creation that’s relatively affordable, that allows for genuine music composition is a very exciting proposition. They’re powerful little machines in their own right and being able to use portable devices for more than just chiptunes has got to be a good thing.

In PSP related news those of you who own a unit with 2.60 firmware will be pleased to know that the 2.60 firmware has been cracked. Utilizing a copy of GTA Liberty City Stories and a Memory stick you can run Homebrew. Lovely! 2.60 PSP Firmware Homebrew

bandwidth shenanigans mk2

Just a note to say that after a short outage due to doing my monthly transfer limit (again) I've decided to upgrade my hosting plan so that the site has a little bit more room to move. It's a good sign that we're using the bandwidth, that means that plenty of folks are visiting.

I've been working on several projects, one of which is working with Peter over on Create Digital Music and some other fantastic folks on the CDM redesign. It's quite a big job and should be showing up on the interweb very soon.

I've also quit full time work for my previous employer a few months ago, and I've been working for myself. That means if you need graphic design work done, I could quite possibly be your man (info at ausmusician dot com) That means most weeks I've been clocking up 70-80 working hours in the last few months. I'm going to try and balance things a little more so that I can concentrate on some non-work related projects, such as onetonne. Which, by the way, has been running in one shape or another for 4 years now.

my excellent webhost

I'd also like to use this as an opportunity to give my host a plug. I use an Australian company - Digitalis, and they have not only provided me excellent prices but fantastic support and excellent quality of service. It's really nice to get such excellent quality service and support and if you're looking for a quality host I would recommend them. So check em out: Digitalis - tell 'em onetonnemusic sent ya ;)

want to join in?

It's a very busy and exciting time, and after the CDM redesign is finished, I have a few tweaks in mind for onetonne, and also I would like to encourage anyone who is interested in getting involved with the site to please get in contact (info at ausmusician dot com) - if you are into music and want a space to write about what moves you then I'd love to have some extra folks onboard.

super mario world live soundtrack

Some achievements are for the good of all mankind. This is one of them... The Super Mario World recorded with full instrumentation. Sometimes very faithful to the original and sometimes just plain out there. You gotta hear the "p block special do the mario". Mariocore. Excellent.

The creator of this amazing effort deserves a hearty big pile of cash for their amazing interpretation of the Super Mario World soundtrack. Not just for nostaligic value either, this is a genuinely impressive work. I've listened a few times through and each time I get a smile out of it. Go get it now.

mescalito grants round 2

Mescalito! Rhymes with Mosquiiitoooo!I previously wrote about these guys and they're at it again!

They're giving away $10,000 worth of Recording time, this time around to multiple artists here's how it works:

Basically around 125 hours at THIRTY MILL STUDIOS is up for grabs...125 hours of studio time will be split amongst the successful applicants, allowing us the chance to support more than just one project. We will discuss with the successful applicants' the amount of studio time being offered to them- after they have been notified by postal mail of their success.

It includes recording, mixing and mastering. Which is pretty slick. Should you have the chops, visit the Mescalito website for more info.

it's a creative mp3 player... and it's GREEN!Here's the new player from Creative. These things are starting to look pretty slick actually, finally Sim-Wong Hoo's smacktalk is starting to look a little bit more solid.

It's 30gb, got a 2.5 inch 262,144 colour screen and shows video, pictures and plays music. It's going to be available in black, white or green (odd choice of colours). It's won "Best in CES" at the recent uber gadget show in the MP3 player category. Infact in the press release I'm reading here they go to say that it has 4 times the colour and twice the battery life of 30gb iPod. They've definately taken design cues from Apple, and made a pretty compelling looking player. It also supports xvid so I'll be able to watch all my legally backed up episodes of the Family Guy Season 5 err... movie trailers. Does anyone know if the format video downloads from iTunes works on these things? Or are we expected to pirate content until the tv/movie industry works out how computers work?
