onetonnemusic wallpaper!
Guday kids! I've made a couple of wallpapers for your desktop delectation! Should you be into this site, or even better, the colour orange, then I have just the wallpaper for you! It's available in super dooper 1600x1200 and not so super dooper 1024x768 resolution! Thats how much I care!
1600x1200 wallpaper - just right click and save as, or if you're on a mac, drag it to your desktop!
1024x768 (But clearly not as juicy as 1600x1200). I'm thinking of using a better version of the tape image in the new site logo, so tell me what you think.

hyper engine av now available free

Arboretum systems have made Hyperengine AV 1.5 available as a free download for mac. They've released the code under the open source GPL so that anyone can improve and fiddle with the source code also. Aboretum also make amongst other plug-ins, the amazing and really rather powerful RayGun for cleaning up old recordings. If you are on a mac and are wanting for some freeform video + audio editing, then look no further kids.

how-to turn your mac mini into an audio workstation
In the mac mini fawning department of engadget I proudly bring you this finely handcrafted link Let's turn that mac mini into an audio workstation". Fancy. I reckon that a mac mini with an external hard disk drive and a copy of ProTools LE (mbox rather than 001 probably) would be a really nice little solution for multi track recording, and natch - it would truly be portable.
I would of written a similar column, but really couldn't be knackered - good on them though, theres a decent basic run through of a music setup.

moollon pretty pedals
Thanks again to the MusicThing massive for their tireless linking to cool products I can by association, bring you pictures and some randomly selected words (they came out of a large hat) about the rather fancy Moolloon pedals. I can tell you the following, apart from the zvex style pedals, which apart from having killer tone, are just plain awesome, these are the most visually appealing pedals I have ever seen. I love the engraving on these. Also, I can tell you that they are sold by the Bad Cat amplification people in the US, which means that they should have the sound to match their AMAZING looks. It's all about the engraving kids. Put me down for one of each!

abelton operator

Abelton Live is one of the best new (or newish these days) bits of software on the market. It did for live sound and electronic music performance what roller skates did for stripey multicolour socks. Okay maybe not stripey socks, but the above screen cap is certainly closer to my 80's vision of a dystopian future where we are all ruled by little green squares. It's a stand alone FM synthesis engine with a bunch of Live style controls. It of course integrates with Live seamlessly. I look forward to checking this out and writing back with some more info. It really does look like a really fun little program to use, and it looks like it offers some really nice methods for creating nice FM synthesis based tunes - or instruments.

loopqoob - i love this stuff!
One thing that I really dig on is all these alternative music input/control devices. There should be plenty more of them, and one that I stumbled across is really damned cool. It's called loopqoob and basically works like this - you have cubes and as you rotate the cube onto a different face it triggers the loop that's associated with that face of the cube. It looks like the more finished version that the designer Murat n Konar put together also flashes with the bpm. I love this idea and it looks like damn good fun.
Murat's site also be sure to check out the videos to see it in action. I dig it. Via MusicThing
